Tom Ford launches beauty line

After rumours recently circulated in February about a new step for American designer Tom Ford, Fashionolia can now officially reveal that a Tom Ford beauty line is set to launch this September.

The collection is exactly what you’d expect from the high end luxury brand, with Ford apparently bringing old school glamour back ‘with a bang’. And for the glamorous collection  that he is gifting to us, the designer expects just one thing in return – an understanding of our features: “Symmetry appeals” says ford, and “all makeup should be applied with a brush”, which is lucky as his collection includes some of the best brushes on the market.

As for the cosmetics, the ‘Radiant Skin’ collection comprises of 130 cleansers, infusions, moisturisers and basic skincare pieces, whilst the ‘Flawless Complexion’ includes cosmetics such as foundations in liquid and stick forms, highlighters, concealer pens and the ‘must-have’ Shade and Illuminate which will achieve that all important symmetry that Ford deems so important. ‘The Colour Collection’ will include an extensive selection of the already existing lipsticks, as well as the sumptuous Eye Colour Quads, blushers and glosses.

Ford will also be launching two brand new fragrances alongside the cosmetics, entitled Santal Blush and Jasmin Rouge, which is set to accentuate any night time look. The beauty collection is set to be launched at Private Blend counters from October 3th, with the likes of Selfridges London and Harrods showcasing previews from September 3rd.

Trend report: Brogues and loafers

As season’s go by, heels seem to get higher and our feet seem to get sadder, so when we saw top models stomping down the runway in platform brogues and patent loafers this season, our toes gave out a big sigh of relief. For sky high prices, favorited designers such as Prada are selling the iconic ‘boy shoe’ to fashionistas across the globe, but for us mere mortals Fashionolia has found a selection of high street stores that are selling designer copies for a fraction of the price.

Long gone are the days that loafer shoes were only suited to those with wispy grey hair and a walking stick. Now, hundreds of celebrities and fashionistas can be found sporting a pair of these cute flats. To get the perfect mix of masculine and feminine, why not try pairing a set of loafers with a tailored trouser and floaty blouse in a pastel shade, or channel festival chic with a feminine dress made cool with a set of patent slippers.  As for nights out, don’t fret! You can find a great selection of heeled loafers across the internet – check below for inspiration!

As for brogues, have they really ever gone out of fashion? Often worn by the ever-stylish Alexa Chung, these shoes are suited to practically any style, bringing an almost tomboy elegance to any outfit. Experiment with colours and textures and opt for a sandal style for evenings, as seen below.

How to dress like: Freja Beha Erichsen

Danish model Freja Beha Erichsen has recently become one of the most sought after models in the high-fashion industry, following a casting for Karl Lagerfeld’s short film ‘A Tale of a Fairy’, where Freja played the leading part. The model is often known for her casual, androgynous style and effortless beauty, so if you’re struggling on how to channel her look perfectly, here are a few pointers:

The boots. One of Freja’s trademark fashion must-haves happen to be this season’s combat boot, that she tends to pair with a dark coloured skinny jean or leather trouser – again falling in line with this season’s fetish trend. If you find yourself falling on the shorter side (a problem that Erichsen may not have) you could also try opting for a pair black brogues or loafers, which will not only extend the look of your legs, but also keep you on trend, following the likes of Prada. You can find leather leggings here, and stylish combat boots here, all for a purse-friendly price of course.

In the above image, Freja is seen wearing a very sheer black tank top. If you have the figure (not to mention the confidence) to pull this look off, you can find a similar selection of shirts from T by Alexander Wang. However, if you’d rather not bare all in public, you could simply opt for a slouchy fit t-shirt – a look that Freja often goes for. You can find similar shirts at high street stores such as Topshop, Zara and Urban Outfitters.

As for finishing off the look – don’t! Leave hair natural and wear little (if any) make-up for that just-woken-up look. The secret to this look is the simplicity and fit of the pieces. Why not show us the result!

The new craze: The Cambridge Satchel

The Cambridge Satchel is the designer satchel that has recently taken the fashion world by storm, after being featured within the pages of magazines worldwide such as Elle, Marie Claire and the ever influential Vogue. Cambridge Satchels have become favourites of both A-List celebrities (such as English singer/songwriter and occasional model Sophie Ellis Bextor) and fashion bloggers a-like, and were continuously seen around the streets of Paris, London and Milan Fashion Week.

The bags come in a huge selection of colours and sizes and can be worn as a backpack, a handbag or the original satchel, as seen below. The company has also given a nod to the recent colour blocking trend seen across countless runways in the Fall season, and have created their own neon fluorescent bags that are available in a selection of your favourite shades.

And if that doesn’t tempt you, the company also provides an embossing service to have your own initials (or any text you wish) imprinted onto the design, creating an iconic staple piece that will last you a life time, or a more personalised gift if you plan on presenting it to a friend or family member. (We like the first idea best of all, unless you’re gifting them to us of course!)

To purchase your own Cambridge Satchel, simply click here and order through their online store! But beware, as there are many different companies and eBay shops selling their own version of the satchel, so if you wish to own the genuine artefact, make sure that you’re buying from the right place.

Style for less: Colour blocking

Shoes: Both ASOS & under £80, Bags: Both ASOS & under £40, Belt: Next (£6)

The easiest way to work the colour blocking trend into your current look is to add a few simple accessories. The highstreet has countless pairs of shoes and bags that practically do the trend for you, as seen above in the red and pink platform heels (that can be bought from ASOS.com for around £80). However, if you want to start off safe, simply wrap a neon belt around a simple dress (preferably in a contrasting colour or shade) and slip on a pair of poster paint heels, as seen above.

From left to right: River Island (£20), Next (£18), Next (£20)

One of the biggest trends for this season, apart from colour blocking, is cerulean blue. As seen in the 2006 blockbuster hit The Devil Wears Prada, the shade has been taken to new heights after being showcased across countless shows over the past few seasons. Pair the above pieces with some of the accessories previously mentioned to get a simple colour blocked outfit for under £100.

From left to right: New Look (£20), New Look (£15), Zara (£25)

Colour blocking doesn’t have to be difficult – in fact, it can often be very subtle. If you’re worried that you’re going to look like a clown when you step out of the door, have no fear! Choose one of the pieces above (all for under £30) and add a simple nude heel to add immediate class to the look. Colour blocking doesn’t have to be all oranges and yellows – you can mix dark with light and light with dark, but we don’t recommend doing it that way at the laundrette!
